Hey Everyone! I am back in Jeffrey's Bay. After a long flight from Washington, DC I arrived safely in J-Bay on the 15h of January. I had a wonderful Christmas Break, but it was nice coming back and seeing familiar faces again. Last week was sort of a relaxing week filled with beach games, ministry planning, and recovering from jet lag.
Last Saturday was our first big event of the Semester. It was the Annual Joshua Project Fun Run. We could not have asked for a better day to have the fun run. The sky was just as blue as ever, and it was extremely hot with a slight beachy breeze! I was not expecting a really big turn out, but once again I am reminded that my expectations are usually inaccurate. We had an amazing turn out. A lot of people from the community put on their tekkies (sneakers in afrikaans) and headed for main beach to join in on all of the fun! The adults had to pay R10, but the children got to participate for free. So...Since the event was free for children we had an overwhelming turn out from the street children. Many of them did very well in the 1000M race. Our first place winner was Bogan! He attends Joshua Project very regularly. We had many shop owners donate small prizes for both the 1000M and the 5K. We had 3 male winners and 3 female winners from both races. Bogan chose the 2 cinema tickets as his prize. I was giving him a hard time by asking which macy (girl) he was going to take to the cinema. He said that he wanted to take his grandmother. This is where everyone should let out a nice sigh. It was so cute! The fun run was a huge success, and I know that the kids had a great time as well.
This week has been extremely busy with everyone trying to get back into the swing of our internships. I was really excited to see all of the sisters at the Clinic. They are definitely as crazy as I remember! They were really happy to see us, and they did not waste any time putting us to work. This week has been the week for newborns. So I have spent most of my time this week helping the mothers in the waiting area care for their children. I think that holding newborns is probably one of the most amazing and beautiful things ever in this world! Since we were getting into the swing of things we decided that this week would not be a good week to start the children's corner, but next week will be the kick off for our project! I am really pumped! The kids are going to be really surprised!
Once again, I would like to give a shout out to all of my supporters! Thank you so much for your financial contributions to my ministry here is J-Bay, and a huge thanks goes out to everyone who is praying for me. Your prayers are being felt not only by me, but from my team as well.
Much love to all,
Hilliary
